Humboldt Kolleg 2025: Current Updates on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Development of New Antibiotics

October 28-31, 2025

Venue: Hotel Royal Tulip, Gwarko, Lalitpur

Background

Antibiotics are widely used in veterinary and human health system worldwide. Although the present achievements of development in both health sectors are due to the use of antibiotics, there is a big challenge of combating antimicrobial resistance in the future to be faced by human civilization. The phenomenon of antimicrobial resistance is a common problem of both developed and developing worlds. World Health Organization (WHO) has publicly announced to the science community for the better antibiotic drugs discovery as soon as possible. The research on various disciplines related to antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance is advancing around the globe. In Nepal, antibiotic drug discovery research projects are being continued with the national fund provided by university grants commission, and government of Nepal. More than two hundred researchers including University Professors, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and other researchers from various public and private organizations- universities, research centers, and hospitals are working in this field under various research projects in Nepal. This is a part of UN SDG 3 contribution. Currently, the organizers of this conference are also engaged in the field of antibiotic drug discovery research project with the grants of University Grants Commission Nepal. Prof. Harald Gross from Tuebingen University is also collaborating with us in the project. The AvH foundation has also supported similar research project under the digital cooperation fellowship to Dr. Babita Paudel-Bhattarai. Therefore, this conference aims to bring together leading national and international experts, researchers, healthcare professionals and policymakers to discuss the latest updates on AMR and the development of new antibiotics. The event will provide a common platform for sharing new research ideas, innovative solutions achieved so far, research collaboration opportunities of both national and international level to combat AMR effectively.

Objectives

  • To share the current updates on AMR.
  • To share the updates on innovation in antibiotics research and development.
  • To share the existing national and international policies and regulations.
  • To create the national and international collaboration and partnership in the field of Antibiotic research.
